Hello! I'm a youngin who has just acquired a dream truck of mine. 1980 chevy luv mikado. i had a few stupid questions about it though. ive been going through the truck looking for things to fix and figure out. what is the black filter bolted behind the panel on the front left side of the bed? i assume either an emissions thing (if so i'll take it out we dont have emissions here=D ) or is it a fuel filter? i really need to get a manual for this thing.. also i seem to have a constant leak around my rear main seal. is that common? thank you for your help!

It is the fuel tank vapor seporator. Condenses the fuel tank vapors allowing the fuel to return to the tank. I would leave it be, hurts nothing. Yes, part of emission system.
Oil leak could be rear main seal but also maybe oil pan gasket leak. Look closely to see exactly where it's coming from.

i would leave the evao=p canister in the bed. i removed overthing else from my emissions system, weber carb, electronic distributor etc etc... left the canister there. removing it can cause fuel system issues from what i have heard... wouldnt know i didnt mess with it it hasnt caused any problems

I've actually seen some stupid questions--but not those. Welcome to the site.

alright i will definitely leave it. I was just curious about it because I got a steal deal on a herculiner. paid 60 bucks. used a 40 dollar giftcard. then mailed a 25 rebate in!

on the leak.. I thought about that also, but not sure because the guy i bought the truck from said he installed a new oil pan gasket. He may be lying or did it wrong, I will look deeper into this matter. on the plus side its keeping the driveway clean of grass :ewink
