So my son just bought a 80 luv on his own brought it home and it was running like a top. While I was at work last night it started acting up on him. He thought fuel but the know it all neighbor tells him sounds like its a wet ignition and spray the cap out with wd40 after that it wouldnt start. Well today before I could even look at it he changed the fuel filter, cap and rotor and still wont start. So I start looking a there is no spark and its been way to long since I messed with points. I did find what appears to be a freshly broken wire hooked to points terminal its about 4 inches long. So my question is what are the wires on that terminal 1 should be the neg side of the coil and the other would be? Should that be a condensor? I am not finding a condensor anyplace. Also what is that white block on top coil some type of resistor maybe and what is it for?

Thanks
Sam

Yes that 4 inch wire goes to a condensor that is mounted on the outside of the distributor body. Must have broken off as the condensor is mounted near the vacuum advance unit.

Thats what it was awful hard to see that tiny condensor down there when faded and rusty looking almost perfect camo.
The boy must of ripped the wire out when undid the clip on the cap.
Well its alive for the time being thanks for the assist. It was pretty funny to see the look on the parts guys face he was thinking there was no way they would have it. But there it was sitting under a inch of dust.

Thanks again Im sure as time goes on we will have more questions.
