just wondering what it would take to convert the stock rear end to disc brakes?
my brakes need to be gone thru in the very near future just wondering if i would be able to set up disc brakes on the rear or just find a rear end with discs from something else..

No disc upgrade for LUV rear axles. Any axle swap with discs will be wider also.

Im pretty sure you can not use the Trooper brakes either. They are on a bigger flange pattern on the end of the axle. And you wouldnt want them either, they are a disturbed piston type hand brake.
A drum handbrake/e brake is the only type anyone should ever want. They just work.
I think you had to come through to nearly 2000 or so before Isuzu started using drum inside disc hand brake on the back.

On a Ute/Truck you do not really want disc on the back. Its about brake effort. You want the efficency where the weight is. Take Peugeot for instance, had 4 wheel discs since the 70's, well into the 80's they were still fitting drums to the rear of Diesel engine motors due to the heavier front ballance of the car.

If the diff is good and you have no need for a stronger one, Just reco the drums.

thanks for the responses... that makes sense... after i get the 4.3 dropped in im going to want the front discs to be working at 100% then.. i will go thru the rear brakes when i replace the front pads and hopefully that will give me the stopping power i need.

im not against swapping to a 5 lug.. i was thinking about swapping to a set of cherokee or wagoneer axles in a year or two when i go back to working 4x4  going to be running 4x2 until i can get a straight front axle to handle the 4.3
between toyota or jeep axles not sure which will be better but i will figure it out when the time comes

In 1988 I bought a new Isuzu Spacecab P/U that came with rear disc brakes. I am almost positive that the truck was wider than the 1987's and earlier though.
