 Post subject: Problem with my 79

Lights go bright and then dim then bright several times within a minute...what is the deal....voltage regulator? Please help 8O

do you have a stereo ? or something else in your truck that might drain energy ?Is your battery any good ? is your alternater good ?
Well those are just some things i can think of off the top of my head ...

It does it when the sterio is off.....but I will have to check on the battery and alternator...thanks for the help.

it would most likely be your alternator.

see if they do it whith the motor not running. Something like this is either voltage regulator or alternator. But if the regulator is going heywire i would think you would have fuses blowing. Well pull the alt and take it to a parts store to have it tested, most will do this for free. If it checks out then its your voltage regulator.

start your truck then disconnect the battery cable.if it dies or acts silly its the alternator.

My 79 was doing the same thing a few years ago....i unhooked the small black wire on my alt. , and it stoped doing it....still runnen' good!

Pulled the battery cable off while it was running and it did not act funny at all...will check if it does it with the engine off..... :x
