Might be a silly question but did the gas engines have any cold start device? or just the diesels.

Yes--it's called a "choke". On a diesel, you can't have a choke. The Isuzu diesels have what they call a CSD, but it just advances timing. They also have glow plugs.

to be honest most vehicles after about 1972 have some sort of im a ***** to start when its cold device.... any sort of choke be it mechanical or electronic (or in some cases having a buddy crank the engine while you hold your hand over the top of the carb) be it pulling heat off the exhaust manifold with whats looks like tinfoil wrapped around a spring or an egr setup (a physical pipe running from the exhaust to the intake manifold...

yes some of these although crude work and in addition to reducing smog inject heat in to the carb...

One of the devices installed on diesels was a plug in heater, 110V. You could buy one of these from aftermarket stores for a gas engine though. The stock diesel heaters were installed into one of the freeze plugs and worked quite well, kept the engine coolant warm enough for you you could feel it. You can spot the heater plug in cord wrapped around the front of the radiator. Joe Isuzu can tell you more about the Pup Diesels too.
