Ok I have to replace my fifth fuel pump in two years.Three of them where manufacturing defects. This one I don't know what is wrong.I run ethanol every once in a while pump was told by the manufacturer that wouldn't hurt the pump. I am wondering if I need to insulate the pump with rubber to help it with vibration damage.
Any ideas?

My OEM pump lasted over 20 years. I then went through several replacements from Parts America under warranty over the next few years. Finally one night, they didn't have one in stock. The kid at the counter offered me a generic one made by Purolator. That must be at least 5 years ago or more and it is going strong.

Well the last time one went I was in Aberdeen and I go a Mr. Gasket one. This one held out for six months.I have not taken it out yet..might be just a electrical connection issue..but it seems dam strange that they keep going out.

Well I found out I had a bunch of water in the tank so that is why I thought the pump was going bad..put the new one in anyway and kept other for a back up.Filled it up with fresh fuel, filed points and runs like a champ.

I've been going through pumps like crazy also. About one a year or so. On this last one I bought one that specifically said it worked with Ethanol fuel and it's lasted the longest so far.

my truck had the stocker (at least the 15 years I have been driving it) until last year and I thought it had sh*t the bed. Swapped out for a fancy holley one and didn't fix it so I put the stocker back in and it's still going strong...

So guys do you think it might help to isolate the pump with rubber so it doesn't get vibration damage?
Also Ben..what brand of pump did you find that said it was ok to use ethanol?

I've had so many that I don't remember off the top of my head. I'll crawl under the truck tomorrow and figure it out.

You can put it aside for me. For now I'm good. If someone else gets in a bind, they can have it.

If we ever have that BBQ I'll pick it up.

Well I just put in the new fuel pump and it quit about 1245 pm est. Wondering if the crimp connects came loose. Also wondering if maybe the par of the alternator wiring that keeps the pump running might have S.T.B. ..will see in the morning.

Yeah, white /green from the alternator to the VR shouldbe about 7 volts and the white/red to the fuel pump relay 14 volts.

Bad ground connection.Five minutes and it was fixed...luckily! One thing I love about these little trucks is that a guy can afford to work n them!

Fuel Pump stopped again so I wired a ignition hot sources to the pump for now.I think my fuel pump relay has been bypassed..but will check for sure.

Be careful doing that. You don't want to overload your ignition switch. The fuel pump relay is there to handle the electrical load of the pump.

This is the one I have now. http://www.napaonline.com/Catalog/Catal ... 2014020&Ar

So far it's been working the longest.

That's the one my 4X4 has. The tank clogged it all up. I got the tank cleaned out and opened up the pump. There is a filter screen in there. Cleaned it out and all has been great since.

The stock pump will last the longest I believe, because it is an actual motor driven rotory pump like all late model vehicles have now days. Many aftermarket pumps were the solenoid driven "clicking" type that have a shorter life I have found. Many stock pumps are thrown away when only the internal filter needs replaced/cleaned.

Ok Ben..then do I test the power at VR like the earlier post to see if it the VR? It us less than a year old and the alternator is like 6 months old. So then I should use a toggle switch and wire it off the battery until I get it figured out?
