Hi guys,
I just got a 1975 Chevy Luv, It was very well taken care of. It still looks as if new and came with all original dealers paperwork. The original owner had engine taken out and rebuilt. When it was on the dyno, it was running excellent. I know the engine builder, He builds the engines for my U.M.P. Modified and I have seen the sheets and video. ( he video's all of his engines on the dyno ) any way, The engine was taken home and put in. Now it is running so rough that the whole truck shakes crazy, When the throttle is pressed it smoothes out. All filters are new, plugs, points, cap and rotor are good. The fuel tank was taken out and professionally cleaned and lines replaced. I'm thinking timing might have jumped a tooth or two. But, wanted your guy's opinion. I would like to get this isuzu engine running properly but if I can't, in goes the 383 stroker from my racecar. Also, any ideas on where I can buy stock parts i.e lmc truck etc. Just in case I end up needing something.

Sounds to me like a fuel to air ratio problem if it was a timing issue it wouldnt just disapear wen u hit the gas get that carb cleaned/rebuit, or buy a weber thats my opinion also did u check all ur vacumm hoses? Could b a headgasket...could b alot of things was this motor built or just a rebuild are ther any performance parts?? Need more details!!!

Yes, check vacume lines. When I was putting my radiator in, I bumped a vacume line by accident and it came off without me knowing it. My truck ran like crap! I found the vacume line and connected it and all was better.

Yep, sounds like a vacuum leak.

Hey guys,
Just an update, Yes, My Luv had a couple of vacuum lines that I found unconnected. The carb did require some adjustment and the timing was just slightly off. We let it run completely out of gas and added some 120 racing fuel. We ran it until it was completely empty. The I filled her up with super and added an octane booster. She runs like a champ now. Next step is to purchase a step side bed, canopy, and a dash cover. The original dash is torn up bad. Any ideas??

I checked it out. As it turns out I will be needing a complete dash so, Looks like I'm going to have to find a donor truck. If I can't find one in just ok shape, I'll weld everything up and glass it all in. Just got the 383 stroker back to the house from the race shop. I just couldn't get that little Isuzu to get as smooth as I like. What a shame cause this little engine was completely rebuilt just a couple of months ago. New rings, pistons, rods, bearings, etc. It was running great on the dyno. The builder did nothing spectacular. I'm just too anxious to get this going. My plan is to have this all done by this coming summer so, A nice winter project. I'm trying to do somthing like ctmandu's luv. He's the one that got me in to Luv's. I saw his YouTube vids. and I was hooked. Might look into his motorcycle carb. setup. Awesome!! Tomorrow, we're starting teardown to frame so, we can send it out to be sandblasted and then off to powder coat. I'm thinking of a dark chrome. All my pieces and parts that I'm looking at are going to come to my shop starting tomorrow. Anybody ever think of installing a power rack and pinion steering?? I'm going to try. I would have liked to go another way but, I'm just too darn antsy. LOL! I'm still trying to find a step side bed. Thus far the donor vehicles I have are a 86 S-10 for spindles and rear end hoping I can make the 5 speed that's in it work as it was connected to a 350. I will have a drive line made here. I bought an old Cadillac for the tail lights. An old T-Bird for the rearend and my racecar for the parts like fuel cell and coilovers. If I end up going with the 383 stroker I am also thinking about taking the AC from a Chevy Caprice that I have stored. It's a shame to take all those other cars apart but, once I get started it's all or nothing.
