i need to troubleshoot my iac valve for 1980 luv 4x4. how do we do this exactly? we read other sites that iin general were saying there should be 10.5 -12.5 volts?, we cant keep guessing on this truck with if 30yr old parts are working correctly. can someone please guide us?.

i googled videos of how the idle sounds when one is bad and although will vary slighlty from make and model the main sound pattern seems like what we are experiencing.

I cant remember a idle air control on a LUV. Is it the coasting richer or anti diesel system you are talking about? The only one I remember is for A/C that is external of the carb.

ok he says its the coasting richer,

im getting an RRRR-rrrr-RRRR-rrrr-RRRR-rrrr- sound
probably to a mechanic it would be like hunting
i turn on the truck it goes way up in idle then when the idle comes back down it goes
WAY DOWN for 2 seconds then goes WAY up in idle for 10 seconds
then WAY DOWN for 2 seconds then goes WAY up in idle for 10 seconds
WAY DOWN for 2 seconds then goes WAY up in idle for 10 seconds
WAY DOWN for 2 seconds then goes WAY up in idle for 10 seconds
and ONLY repeats this pattern.
like it wants to correct itself but doesnt know how.

also the screen was tweaked on the anti diesel we removed the pin from it but dont know if that would cause problems with higher idle. because its supposed to help shut me off.
i will try to post a video of it

No AIC on the Luv. These are only on the fuel injected computor controlled wonders that we drive today.
Removing the pin from the anti dieseling solenoid would probably have no affect on idle. However, make sure the coasting richer solenoid valve is closed and seating properly as this will pull in extra fuel and affect the idle. It should be closed at all times except when coasting with the throttle closed and in 3rd or 4th gear. It's an emission thing.
