yes on the carb, already paid registration on it but still have to get a smog. NO clue if it will pass. it has squeaked by and passed on the last 2 smogs. i have a carb problem we know have to find a friendly price on getting another car or rebuilding it if possible

The first thing you need to do is narrow it down to fuel or fire. Sounds like a fuel issue to me for sure. I could be wrong but it would be the first time ever. Anyway, there is a plethora of things to check. Make sure there is no leak at the base gasket of the carb. With it running spray some carb cleaner at the base of the outside of the carb around the gasket. If that makes a difference then you have a gasket problem, since you have replaced several feet of vaccuum hose then I assume there are no leaks. Check your fast idle adjustment, it seems to high like Mace said, return spring, how new/old is the fuel in it? Get it idling at the right level then chase the skip, miss and hop.

While engine is running use carb cleaner to check for the vacuum leaks.Spray it at carb base first then at other vacuum sources..brake booster line, emissions junk etc. If engine rpm changes..there is your leak!

check the plugs and points see how they look as well. if its running to rich or not enough of fuel you can tell from the wear on the plugs.

regarding vacuum motors -we tested with a vacuum pressure gauge. with it hooked up it reads 0 if we unhook it and test, the vacuum meter read 14 inches steady on idle.
i understand it is called a vacuum motor however there are no images of one to google and no parts called that. could it be called by any other names? i am in california and it would be required for ca. standard emissions. its hard to believe its not an available part unless i am searching the wrong term (chevy luv vacuum motor) the diaphragm inside the unit must be faulty as vacuume leaks right through it.

have used sea foam engine treatment and oodles of carb cleaner. i will check the old plugs against the picture signs i seen in the hanes book.

An old vehicle of any kind is going to need some tender loving care for a while. You fix one thing and another brakes/ or gets discovered. That's just the way it is. But done right, and it's still much cheaper than a new car.

No paymeants, less reg. and ins. Chrome bumpers and style. Yea, I like the old ones better.

:signiagree I have found alot of thingsd to fix on my LUV's while fixing something else. I learn alot, get to spend time in my shop with my sons and also use it as an excuse to buy another tool, tool kit or piece of equipment. Your Luv doesn't hate you...it just needs a little attention.
