I'm stumped. I can't seem to find how I'm getting oil into the air cleaner. I have fresh oil under the air filter.

You have pressure escaping past the rings and building up in the crankcase then escaping through the breather....(Blow BY).

I have gotten by with a few with just rings...and the rest of the rebuild kit, Rod and Main berings etc. You won't know for sure if you need to replace pistons until you get into it. My philosophy is if I need to replace pistons I might as well have the block bored to the next size so tolerances are as tight as new.

And if you tear it apart spend a little more and get the valves done..if you can have the valve guides machined for vitron seals instead of the umbrella seals. It will help oil control later on and keep the valves from building up carbon on them from the oil and exhaust.
