I am in the middle of replacing my head gasket and I am thinking of doing a smog delete need to know if it will still pass the
the pipe test. Every body keeps telling me they don't do visual inspections any more is this true? Can I put a weber on and still pass if they do visual?

Did you also delete the smog equipment,
Or just add the weber with all the same vacuum hoses?

I live in AZ and have a '79 with a stock carb and it passed no problem. They did fail me in January 2011 for having a piece of masking tape on the vacuum hose though, they said that it could be covering a hole (it was there from a head gasket replacement job years ago when I marked all vacuum lines so that they went back in the proper places). They said take the tape off and go back through the line right then. I did and they passed me 15 minutes later. So I guess that in my case, yeah, they did check it out visually. I don't see why they would fail you for having a different non stock carb on if it passes emissions OK though.

PS they did fail me years ago for a "bad" gas cap. got a new one and it passed fine.
