 Post subject: Door Hinges
PostPosted: Tue Nov 11, 2003 6:40 pm
Anyone here ever have problems with their hinges making the doors not line up? My problem is not that the hinges aren't properly aligned so much as it is that the hinges themselves are out of line. The pins have worn down and let the hinge "sag" a bit. This causes the door to misalign and no matter how much you try to adjust the door or shim the hinges, the door doesn't line up. So basically, anyone know of brand new hinges? Or how about a correct hinge rebuild kit?

That is something I thought of doing but the problem is, to drill them out would I need a drill press? Cause I don't have one. Also, anyone know the size of the replacement pins I would need? Any advice on the topic would help out a great deal. Thanks guys

Here is that thread:

A drill press would be nice, but if you are fairly steady with a hand drill and have something like a vise to hold the parts you could probably do it. I'd try to pick up another set and fix them up right, then pull the old ones and replace. Gives you time to do it right, clean them up, and throw some paint on them.

As for pin size, the thread above discussed this some.

Good point, 800xl. Anyone here have a spare set of not-too-f***ed-up hinges they'd be willing to part with? I'll post in the classified section too just in case. Would appreciate it.

You should rig up all your doors like i got my passenger door....automatic opening!! yup its "spring loaded", so you close the door and when you open the handle you move your hand quickly and the door flips open at super high speed...resulting in no effort wahtsoever to open the door!......the only problem is its a two handed operation to close that damn thing again....Thinking about purchasing some "Insturctions Sticker" for opening the door so somebody doesn't break their wrist getting into my truck....lol

It's easy to rebuild the hinges. You do not need a drill press. I just went to Nampa, and looked on there rack of door hinge pins. Just look for a pin that is the same lenght, and a little bigger than the luv door pin. I did not use a drill press. Get a drill bit the size of the pin, and drill as straight as you can. At the top of the pin there should be some serrted threads which you will need to hammer down into the hinge to hold it there. Works great and very cheap. I think it cost like $4.00 a door.
