I just put a. 305 in my 78 with that same trans. I didn't have to do any mods for it to fit.. but i did one anyways. I made the center section of my trans/tor bar mount removable just to make it easier to take it out if i ever had to..

The driveshaft will be different. I believe the trans mount will be farther forward, although admittedly I switched back and forth between a TH400 and a 700R4, not a TH350. The shifter linkage will be different. Basically everything.

You'll also need a new converter and you'll have to rig up some sort of converter lockup switch, or covert yours to a non-lockup converter and trans.

You'll also need a throttle position cable, which is similar to a kickdown cable, but much more important for the 700R4 since it controls shift points, firmness, etc. On the 700R4, the cable is not optional, it's mandatory.

I would also recommend an oversized dedicated trans cooler.

Thanks for the info. I should have menchoned that i have a universal b&m ratchit shifter and i knew that the drive shaft would be difrent and i have a larg trans cooler. Didnt know about the kick down cable thanks for that and that the mounting is difrent. The rear mount position is mainaly what im trying to find out about. Im going to have 2 weeks to get my new engine trany and rearend in and im trying to find out about any major problems i might have mounting the 700r4 in the truck where the th350 is now

Thanks for your replys the info so far is realy helpfull

Ben has probably changed out more of these than anyone else on this site! He gave you some really important information! You will find the 700 is two inches longer than your t-350 but the driveshaft yoke is the same. Making your transmission cross member removeable is a really good idea. And it is a pretty straightup modification, pays off anytime you work on your transmission.
