I was starting to bolt the accessories on and get it ready to install and noticed the head has "G200" cast into the front, is this typical of a stock 1980 4x4 Luv truck or was it swapped on?

At some point in its life someone else has put that head on there... wont hurt anything. Compression wont be as high though. Will lose some power but seeing that offenhauser intake I am assuming you are going to run a weber as well so you will be happy with it. Get yourself a electronic distributor from a 83-87 pup with the 1.9l in it and put that on there as well and you will be happy with your engine. Looks great. Just did mine over the winter.

Ok, thanks!

Yes, Dual Port Offy Intake, Weber, PaceSetter Header, and just ordered a good used Elec. distributor from a 1.9. The only internal mod other than a stock rebuild with all new parts is a mild RV cam. I'm also swapping to a 1986 Trooper 5 speed trans before I install it.

Couple more questions if you don't mind. What was the original color of these engines and were the heads painted or bare aluminum? Which starter and alternator should I buy for this engine? Any good resources for soft parts like molded heater hoses and other accessories?

Stock starter will work just fine and the sky is the limit as for as alternators go... ac was equipped with a 50amp and non ac has a 35amp alternator

Well it's taken longer than I planned but I'm a few days from re-installing my engine, final combo is as follows: 1.8 block bored for new pistons, 200 head with mild port job, Pace Setter Header, Offenhauser dual intake, Weber carb and an RV cam. I also made a few changes in painting it. I am a died in the wool Mopar guy, and since this engine has a Hemi head design I went with the Chrysler 426 Hemi engine color scheme, Hemi Orange with a wrinkle black valve cover.

Wha La! Instant "Baby Hemi" :ebiggrin

Before and after pics. What do you guys think?

Thanks! I'm still trying to find the molded two piece heater hose that wraps from the intake "T" fitting around the back of the head and to the firewall valve. I found the long one that goes forward from there and both rad hoses. Anyone know the correct part# for the ones I need? I see a lot of them listed on ebay but the photos are generic and of no help in figuring out what they are selling.

Really nice looking job you've done there. When are you dropping it in and starting it up?

I'm not sure where you can get the hoses from. That's one of those parts tht I used Adapters and hoses and put together myself.

I need to pull the fuel tank, get it cleaned and sealed, get the radiator rebuilt, new electric fuel pump and rubber hoses, then wait for other bits and pieces I still need, heater hoses, waiting for the clutch to show up, etc. Then the final delay will be installing the 5 speed from a Trooper parts rig, I need to get it to a buddys shop to use his lift and fab the cross member, then I'll bolt it all in. Then it's down to the exhaust shop for a new pipe and muffler.

After it's running I'll have more work ahead as the truck sat in a field for 12 years with a blown engine and was treated like hell long before that. Next will be the front suspension rebuild and brakes, then a new dash pad and dash detailing, new carpet, and seat cover. Maybe someday get ot painted but that's down the road. Should be a nice driver for years to come after that's all done.

That is far too pretty to put in your truck. It should be on a shelf! May it run as good as it looks. :D

Well the G200 head swap bothered me due to the likely drop in compression/power so I took it and a spare 180 head I had laying around and the complete engine shown above back to my engine builder and had them make the swap. Now I'm back to a 180 head and back on track to mate it to the 5 speed Trooper trans and install mock up this weekened.
