Picked up a Oldsmobile 307 and 200r4. He Trans let me have a lot of swap options with the universal pattern and the 307 isn't a power house but it should be fun and decent MPG still.
has anyone done the Oldsmobile swap?

I think the engine you have is just a Chevy/GM engine.
At one time Olds got sued for using Chevy/GM engines with an Olds nameplate on them without telling the owners they weren't getting actual Oldsmobile-built engines, & I think the 307 was one of the engines that prompted the lawsuit.

Pretty sure if it has the 200r tranny, it is a 307 OLDS, they did make them. Never did an OLDS swap into a LUV, but one member here has a 455 Buick in his, so the olds will fit...

e-bay had a luv with a old's V8 in it a few years ago. Twice actually, the same truck. It is a little heaver than a sbc I think.... No reason it can not be done, just do not look for a swap kit, Olds are good engines.. Dual exhaust will work just fine. The whole GM thing on engines was because they were putting different brands engines, in different brand of GM cars.. They latter put on the stickers that the engines are GM made engines or some wording like that

The 307 Old's is not a power house of and engine compared to the SBC but it is a very fuel efficient engine and is almost as light as the SBC. I had a 90 Cadillac with the 307 Old's ad it got 22 MPG consistently.

The engine is wider then the sbc but should fit with some finesse as the mounts are very close to the sbc. I would use the 200R4 and a S-10 rear end with at least a 3.50 gear for the best mileage and even a 3.00 would work for mileage as the LUV is 1/2 the weight of my Cadillac. It wont be the quickest but it will be very fuel efficient.

If you are looking for the best of both worlds a 3.73 to 3.50 gear will give you the best results even the LUV 3.42 will work if you can find them.

One word of caution if you use this engine live it as is DO NOT change the carb as you will lose the the mileage you are looking for out of this combo. It will serve you for many years. Good luck and hope you follow up on this.
