Hey guys so i have a little problem. This weekend I upgraded my alt to the 50 amp from the 35. I hooked it up the same way that the 35 was hooked up. Monday it ran fine but the gen light would come on and today after stoping for coffee had to get a jump. Started up ok when i got to work I shut it down and tried to start it again with no dice.

I thought I remember someone saying that there was a wire or something that needed upgraded or something.

Anything would help.

Thanks
OX

the difference between 35 and 50 amp is not much when you aren't pulling more current, so I think it's not the wiring being too small. My guess is the external voltage regulator, or a missing/loose connection. Don't forget to hook up the ground wire to the alternator, it's not like a chevy where it grounds through mounting (I think even Delcos are designed to have a discrete ground).

Also grounds will get you ... you might disconnect, sand, and reconnect the ground on the frame in the engine compartment, the one on the battery tray, and the one on the engine. Although it's not necessarily what's wrong, it's not labor lost because those connections will corrode eventually.

What year is your truck again?

Sound like I really need to write up my internally regulated replacement in my Coolblue72 thread...
