Sorry, I'm ignorant on LUVs, but I know a little about P'ups. Does your LUV have a hydraulic clutch, or cable? That's the only potential issue I can think of right now.

The '85 should have a 1.9L G200Z engine, which is just a larger displacement version of the stock Luv engine, it fits, I have one in mine. The difference is it may have a mechanical fuel pump instead of the electric on the LUV- either one will work fine.
The tranny is the same size. Make sure the output shaft is the same size & spline as the LUV, if not use the splined yoke from the '85.

79/85 its the same MSG trans as far as gearing, case size and spline count.
86/87 is the hard to find 14.5% O\D trans, same MSG trans with a 5th gear (case is 5" longer) and small change to 1st, 2nd, 3rd gearing.
all MSGs 79/87 are the same low range gearing.

only possible changes 79/85 i know of are......
the front bearing retainer on 4WD 4speeds.........some are 4 bolt some are 6 bolt.
where as all 5speeds 2 or 4wd are 6 bolt
and the oil fill plug on a 5sp 4wd is a 1/2" higher.

the diesel housing has the starter on the op-pest side of the gasser, thus making a housing swap needed if you had a diesel.
but thats not a issue for you, since you don't have any need to swap housings.

"you have a gasser"

File comment: this shows the gearing changes.
some of these tranys are not sold in the usa!!!
