 Post subject: timing chain change

do you really need to pull the motor to change the timing chain? how about a ball park price for having it changed,81 luv automatic

do you need to pull the head as well? i am going to get a manual but i know they tell you the RIGHT way to do things

There are two bolts that go through the head into the front timing cover, which means the front cover is tight to the head and probably has sealant at the juncture to the block. The head gasket may even extend out over the front cover, it's been too long since I looked. IMO-If you don't remove the head you'll never get the cover out and back in.
