Am think hard on going 5.0 ford swap vs ka. I am thinking of finding a donor mustang, pulling engine/tranny, along with driveline and possibly rear end... if it has 9".

Any thoughts? I think it will be easier a little than a sbc because block is a little smaller.. and there are tons of build up parts, including$ 400 belt driven superchargers...

Most I know of ar fi, but not sure. I like carbs better, but when building efi will be better.

If you are going efi use the MAF style injection. Also realize there is a different firing order on the HO engines. My 79 Cj 5 has a efi 5.0l. Besure to use the entire drive train from the donor and know exactly what year and model the donor came from. Ford changed ALL KINDS of stuff on the SBFs from the mid 80's and up.

Sounds like an interesting swap! Here are a couple of facts out of a Petersen Engine Swap Manual. 289-302 Ford engines are 28" long, and 22" wide, weight 480 lbs. (Chevy sb are 530# with a length of 24" and a width of 26")
You can get several varieties of oil pans, front sump, rear sump, but any oil pan will fit into your LUV. The only problem I can see is in the length, you can always "massage" the fire wall with a "super hammer" though. Ford hasn't used a 9 " in anything for several years, but the later Mustang rear ends are plenty strong. You can also use a Maverick-Comet w/302 engine w/ a 8" rear end, these are only 2" wider than a stock LUV.
And a supercharged 302 (5.0) is awesome!! I've had several of them and loved everyone, ran a s/c Hi Po 289 (4 bbl) in a 65 Ranchero for years.
And the Comet rear ends are available for around $150, but are only available in 3:00 or 2:80 ratios although after market gears are readily available.
Good luck, one thing about the efi swap is the plus 25 mpg you will be able to get!

Would the 8" hold up to the supercharger? So if irs only 2" wider, could I simply put in without worrying about shortening?

Other question is what kind of mounts and brackets am I going to have to worry about?

Wanting to keep fab work to an absolute minimum, I can do basic upkeep on cars but welded and metal worker I am not. Don't want to get in over my head and have a useless cut up truck.

Though if it was small enough job, a shop is an alternative.

With an engine swap you will be cutting metal out that is for sure.

Depends on the engine combo installed, shouldn't have to do any cutting with a small block, regardless of who made them, as well as the installers fab skills. I don't cut any of the ones I do...

Ah, from reading I have been under the impression you had to cut firewall and a few other things to get a sbc in there... am I to hear simply having mounts would work? Minus hoses and everything small anyway.

The only way my small block would fit was to cut some where or beat the firewall with a hammer :?

I got a sbc in my blue truck with no firewall mods and I even had room for a mechanical fan. The only cutting I had to do was for the bigger 22x19 alum radiator. I used a smaller points style distributor and installed a points elimator kit, If you use an HEI you might have to hammer on the firewall at most depending on engine placement.

I have used the 351 Windsor engines in early mustangs and 2nd gen mustangs. IIRC it is taller and the heads are moved out more than the 231-260-289 engines. Not to be confused to the 302 Boss engine-351 Cleveland or M (modified) engines.
Good engines, but big and heavy.

Grandmaster of the "Shade Tree" way.. I can't see the yard for all the cars. Come on down and we will sit on the porch and watch the grass grow.
