I'm about to try and smog my truck. I was wondering what common problems have been had from any California Luv owners? Any and all problems with solutions would be a great help to me and hopefully any other Luv owners here.

By the way any LUV items you might need the Pick an pull in Redding is a gold mine. I pulled a 5 speed up there and the choice of about three. Everything down in the valley is stripped or dont have them.

I haven't had any real problems once I got the truck tuned up and running good. I got it nice and warm, ran it down to about 1/4 tank and put in a fuel system cleaner (full bottle) and drove it until almost empty then filled it up and smogged it.

I had my Luv smogged a couple of weeks ago. On the gas cap, there's a rubber seal under the cap. Mine has 3 large cracks in the seal. It still passed, but the smog guy said that's a common thing that needs to be replaced on older vehicles.

I just tried to get my 79 4x4 Mikado smogged a few days ago here in California, emissions were great but it failed the Fuel EVAP pressure test. Could it just be a bad cap? Is the dude supposed to stick the instrument into the open gas tank or just wave it in front of the closed cap?

The smog guy usually hooks the gas cap up to a device to check it and make sure it seals right. That's been my experience anyway. I'd buy a new cap and check hoses and system for any leaks. Good luck
