I would think that you would at least want the vents for the battery on top.

you can mount an optima, or any GEL cell battery any way you want.

Well, I'm sure you know more than I do about the subject, but I contacted them regarding this question some time ago when I was considering the same scenario.
Quote:
Can I install my Optima on it’s side?
All Optima models can be mounted on its side, as long as the terminals are protected from shorting. We recommend that the vents be oriented so that they are toward the top of the battery when installed. Also, if the battery you are using has side terminals they should be protected from shorting and the battery should not be installed so that the battery is supported by the side terminals. For installation on the side of the battery, the battery's weight should be supported entirely by the cylindrical battery container and not the lip of the cover.

Thank you,
Adam
Optima Customer Service
info@optimabatteries.com

I'm assuming they changed their policy since then?

hmm i dunno. Ive just always been told they can be mounted anyway. Ive seen them upside down before. it says recommend, not required so I'm not too worried about it. thanks for looking out though Ben!

got 98% of the wiring from the cab back buttoned up. wiring ran to valves and senders under the cab. need to finish that tomorrow and everything behind the cab. really need gauges and engine harness to finish the wiring.

How difficult has your wiring been to keep that motor fuel injected.... was thinking of doing something similiar from the get go but doing the msd box swap to control the timing for the firing of the coils and going with a different intake and carb on the same style of motor. In other words a lsx setup. Also, what type of transmission are you going to be using and how will it be controlled. In other words if it is a 4l60 or 4l80e how do you control it without a bcm..... if it is a 700r4 how do you have the tv cable set up through your throttle linkage. Any pics of this would be tremendously helpful. Thank you for your time and you have a good looking truck and great fabrication skills.

i bought a stand alone harness for the engine. all i will have to hook up to the chassis harness is a switched 12v, constant 12v and a ground for it to work. the harness i bought controls the tranny too. im using a 4l60e

By looking on the website at the link you posted it mention the park/neutral switch for the transmission is controlled by the ecm... so do you still need that in order for it all to work. I hate to sound like the moron here but I am very interested in your build now that you are going fully fuel injected and computer controlled tranny. Also how do you select the gears for that transmission. Is it still a cable controlled unit from the shifter?

also what are you running for a fuel pump and what does that motor require to sufficiently run?

you might be able to have them bypass the neutral safety switch when they build the harness since they build them to order. im not for sure on that. my shifter was setup for one so it wasn't a big deal. and yes you use a cable for the shifter to tranny.

im running a walbro 225 pump.

so you have no ecm whatsoever on the truck correct? if so did you have to have it re-coded and who did you go through for that process.... man I feel like the village idiot with all these questions but I can see the Christmas sales at summit already lol

also by reading some things it seems as though the shifting pattern is controlled by the variable speed sensor on the vehice.... can you elaborate on this and how that works.

yes.. the truck needs a computer to run. it will use a factory computer that has been retuned. current performance is retuning it for me for my cam, intake, air intake, gear ratio, headers, exhaust etc. but i will have it dyno tuned locally once its running.

and the shift pattern is controlled by the computer
