Yeah, disconnect both wires. You should never leave the ignition hot but not running with any engine with points very long. OK for short tests. And yes, the older fuse boxes are notorious problems. I have seen mixed reports that the 80's are better. Perhaps a mid year upgrade?

I will look into a better fusebox in a month. But the voltage coming accross fuse blocks R consistant. Bought a new spark tester and new vaccum hoses. Will test and replace lines after current rain s torm.

Tester off #1 plug wire is adjusted to 20 mark. Shoots a white spark. about 2 every second. Is this right?

I would think most of the newer boxes would work. You need inputs for the battery, ignition, accessories, and headlights. There is a fuse from the battery that feeds the light switch, and then back to the fuse box for each of the 4 headlights.

o.k. will keep trying for a box. The yards here suk. Also, when using a adjustable spark tester, when it's attached to the end of a plug wire and grounded to the engine, should the gap be set to the same as the spark plug would be? Thinking the gap is too far, so giving me a strong spark, but not as steady.
