Good day to the Luvtruck forum.

I have a 1980 Chevy Luv Stepside Manual 4x4. I use it a lot on sand dunes, and during a recent trip to the dunes, I burned out the clutch. I bought a replacement clutch and I have been following a Chevy Luv repair manual for the replacement. The manual says I basically have to dismantle the whole transmission just to get at the clutch. I have been doing that, but it is a real pain as many of the bolts are very difficult to access and it is really slow going. I have already removed the gear box and transfer case and have removed a lot of the nuts and bolts. With other clutch replacements I have done, I just unbolted the transmission, unbolted and removed the cross member, and dropped the whole transmission. I wanted to do that, but the cross member on my truck is welded on, not bolted.
It has just become much more complicated that I thought it would be, and reassembling the transmission is going to be a major pain. Does anyone have any tips to make this process easier? Am I just making this more complicated than it has to be? All I really need is to slide the transmission back a few inches so I can get at the clutch, but with the welded on cross member, I am not sure how to do that.

Thank you so much in advance for you help, Josh

Search clutch replacement in the stock trucks section and go to 4x4 clutch problems thread or search clutch in the 4x4 section and go to tranny rebuild thread. Hope this helps some, Good Luck.

Yes, a pain. On my 77 2x4 you have to take the transmission mount apart to remove it. I don't if yours is the same or not.
