Ok so my truck had been running like a champ for the last week. Parked it came back to start it and it wont turn over. It has power , even hooked the battery charger/jumper too it to make sure bat wasnt the problem. So i assumed that it was the starter solenoid found out its cheaper to buy the starter and solenoid then just the solenoid. Installed all that and still nothing. The starter doesnt kick over.

I have checked all connections and fuses everything seems legit. Just not sure why one day it just wont turn over.

I have a MSD box, so unless mysteriously that thing went bad i dont get it.

Thoughts

Did you check your iginition to see if it's sending power to the starter?

Jumper the start connection on the solenoid to hot on the starter, the heavy wire from the battery, if the starter engages it could be the power from the ignition switch to the solenoid. Make sure it is in neutral when you do this.

I just had the same thing happen to my truck. I moved the wires from the ignition switch and it started right up. I did not see any loose wires. Still not sure what to look for.

The solenoid has 3 contacts, battery, ignition switch and the starter. Short the battery terminal to the starter. If it doesn't turn over the battery, the starter, or the connections between are bad. When you checked the connections, did you check the ground? Get an ohm reading between starter housing and negative terminal of the battery. It should be 0 or close.

If it does turn over, short from the battery to the switch terminal. If it turns over, follow the black/white wire back to the switch.

Note, I think I went through 3 alternators from Advance auto before finding one that worked right. All under warranty. The kid was amazed that I coughed up a 10 year old sales slip.

Tried the short trick on the starter it turned over. So im guessing the switch is culprit, we are talking the switch behind the key correct? Or would something from my MSD box be fing things up? Going to get an Ohm meter and figure this crap out I hate electrical stuff!

I doubt the MSD box has any thing to do with it, although a branch of the black/white start circuit does connect to the coil + terminal.

Swapped new ignition switch in and still nothing. Went through and cleaned up the fuse box and all the battery connections. Going to take switch back and pick up a electrical reader. Any one have any other IDEAS?

I swear sometimes i wish i could just take it out back and shoot it! But then I step back and look at it and smile again!!!

Did you try shorting the battery to the small terminal on the solenoid? You can also short it to the + terminal of the coil. If you turn the key to on, does the oil and charge light come on? Does the radio and other stuff work on accessories? If so, you have power to the key switch.

Bought a meter still trying to figure out how to work everything. The battery checks out. I checked the ohms on negative cable using both switching too the OHM setting black on negative and red on POS read 0. Everything else tuns on radio lights fans and everything else. Turn the key and it doesn't kick the starter. Fuses for CPU and voltage reg are all good. Just stumped ran great and then it rained and nothing/

You might want to check the switch that is activated by the clutch pedel. It sounds like you checked about everything else. Good luck!

As in my previus post, clutch switch, clutch switch. Never heard if you checked this or not? Disconnect its plug and short the plug terminals together with a piece of wire. Make sure you are in neutral when you do this.

When you push in your clutch, there is a button that gets pressed/released above the pedel, above the pivot point.

No problem: Correct, the switch gets pushed when you push down the clutch pedal all the way to the floor. Sometimes just carpeting or the floor mat can get under the pedel and keep it from going down all the way and this will keep it from turning over.
