Hello Luv Nation! I got some great help last time I posted something so I figured I would try again :D I have narrowed my fuel issues down to my fuel pump and relay. I have jumped the relay strait to the pump, I have power at the pump, therefore I figured pump no worky. However... I have plugged the relay in most of the way, and I tested the fuel pump part, and no power, so I believe the relay is bad aswell.

Heres the problem. As many of you know, you can't buy 'em anymore. I have to replace with a universal 5 prong. The new relay has the picture that shows how it works, but the picture of the stock relay is too confusing for me. :?: Wiring is the hardest for me.

Can anyone tell me (remember, I'm ignorant) step by step how to do this? I would love to get my LUV on the road. It's a '79 4x4.... Any help would be greatly appreciated.

OK, you have the notorious white/red from the voltage regulator and a black ground that goes to the relay coil. The relay should have NOC, NCC, and com terminals. The red/black wire to the fuel pump goes to the com terminal, the black/yellow from the ignition goes to the NOC terminal, and black/white going to the start circuit.

Thanks Labman. What do I do with the other 2 wires? I probably sound like an idiot. Thanks for your help.

Which wires? 2 to the coil, and 3 to the double throw relay.

Thank you labman. I hope this info will help more than just me. From what I've heard on other threads is that this is a common problem and for rookies like myself, it's a road block to fixing the problem. Only a fuel pump away from getting her running.

After my original fuel pump went out, I bought one like it at Parts America. It didn't last long and neither did a couple of others. Finally I lucked in and the kid offered me a generic replacement one night when they didn't have a stock one on hand. That was at least 5 years ago and maybe 10. Still going strong.
