Working on the LUVs because I have to, rather than want to, for my daughter is getting old. I'll only get rid of the '80, and keep the other two.

I have a friend selling his father in laws 01 Chevy Blazer 4 door, 2wd 42000 miles. It will at blue book value or barely under it, but I know I'm not being lied to on this car. It's in perfect condition. They only used it to tow a small travel trailer now and then.
Anyone here have experience with these vehicles that can tell me about problem areas to look for or trouble you've had? Tilted?

He's going out of town, so it'll be a week before I can see/get it.

I had a 2000 ZR2, and the only issue I had was the intake gasket. Mine had a little over 100k on it, but in doing research I found out that these gaskets basically start to disentigrate at around 100k with the use of the Dexcool (orange) coolant fluid. The symptom is leaking coolant. You can do the repair yourself, in a half to full day, just depends on how quickly you work. My daughters b/f at the time had the same problem on his, I think it was a 98.

Since you are aways away from 100k don't really think it should be anything to worry about at least for a while. You might want to consider changing it over to traditional coolant instead of the Dexcool but that is a judgement call on your part.

The only other issue I ran into was with the 2wd > 4wd switch, but you don't need to worry about that.

Good luck, hope it works out for you.

Chad

I know Wicked had or has a blazer about that year, I have had nothing but problems with my SS in the last 7 years, the last being a whole new motor which still isnt right. I think most of the problems with mine is it only sees about 300 miles a year now and sits about 50 weeks out of the year. So I am not a good source for information for you.

Hey i'm new here and figured id try and help you out. The abs light seems to always be on, gas gauge sometimes tends to read incorrectly, as stated above the intake manifold gaskets leak, the oil cooler lines leak (I usually just delete them). There may be a couple more things but if it has the 4.3 and the 4l60e, its a good motor and trans and a good reliable truck.

Thanks. The old guy decided not to sell. My buddy said he'd let me know first if his father in law changes his mind again.

if she's getting older, let her buy her own car!

When i got my license (against my dad's wishes i might add) he told me this

"ok, you want to drive? I will help purchase your car by up to half, and you have to pay me back within a year. oh and you are now responsible for your own Insurance, registration, gas, oil, maintenance, and if you can't fix it, you take it to a shop and pay YOUR mechanic (which i had to find myself since his had orders not to work on my cars) to fix the problems. Welcome to the world of owning a car!"

Those are just my two cents. let her decide what she wants and then just look at it with her. and let her pick in light of any problems that may be present...
