Guys
What size plugs do you use for the air tubes?Whoever removed the smog pump on my truck just bent the pipes after cutting them and they are leaking. I would like to find ones with Allen heads on them so I can turn them down flush.
And yes my carb is being rebuilt right now so I can get it back on the road...Hopefully done Monday!

Really good solutions are hard to find. It is an unusual thread, 14mm-1.0 if I remember. The thread is used on spark plugs and some wheel studs. You might try someplace such as Fastenal or McMaster-Carr.

Any hardware store will have 1/4'' pipe plugs cheap, but they aren't the right size. You may be able to jam them in, but they aren't right. I found an old spark plug. It is a 14 mm 1.25 thread, a finer thread than 1/4'' pipe.

Take the threaded portion that goes into the head, remove the tubes, tap the inside for a hex bolt (or set screw), thread them back into the head- did that 30 years ago, never a leak, & it's cheap, the bolts can be SAE thread, whatever size best fits.

What I did was cut the smog tube off, pulled it threw the fittings so I could still use them. Then I took and tapped the holes to fit I think 1/4 npt plugs

I picked up two bags of these off of eBay. They should thread right in and not have any clearance issues. Labman is right - they have the same pitch (1.25) as spark plugs.

They can be found here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180484683636&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWNX%3AIT

I don't think the oil plugs will clear my valve covers!
If you don't plug them you lose compression and you vehicle won't run right!

ok i have a solution for you.

remove the factory fittings
remove the tubing from the factory fittings.
cut yourself a slug of metal(sheet, metal, tin, coke can might even work) that is the same diameter as the end of the factory fitting

drop the slug of metal in the whole and reinstall factory fitting to seal it

M14-1.25 drain plugs, 5 of them for $7 shipped. Just bought some to plug the ports in my turbo block. Used similar ones on my G180.

The outer circumference of these made contact with the head, so they had to be ground down to a smaller size. The threads were correct though.

Not sure it was worth it... :econfused

At least it's done.

I guess that didn't work. In the past I found farm machinery the last hold out for American made and customary fasteners. The implement dealers are good places to find stuff not otherwise available. And it is good stuff.

Just for fun, I poked arounjd http://www.fastenal.com/ They have M14 x 1.5 and 2.0 plugs.

I just ground down the outer lip to the hex. My time is free so it's a good price and you don't have to tap new threads into the block or ghetto weld the rail fasteners.
