Hi!

My name's Brian and a neighbor of mine has a LUV she's had since new in 1978. Its been sitting for most of its life and hasn't been started for a couple years. Right now the battery is dead, but the lady said that it ran when she parked it. She said she wants it gone and that she'll sell it to me for $200. :D Is there anything you can think of that I should do or know before I stick a new battery in it and attempt to drive it home?

Thanks

,Brian

I might be concerned about the fuel if it sat too long. If it was only a couple years it might be ok yet, but if it was a few years, then I would siphon it all out and change the fuel filter and put fresh gas in. Sounds like you got a good deal. Good luck.

Sounds like a good start for $200.00. How far is your "drive home"? When I bought mine and attempted to drive it home I made it 40 miles and it started to get hot. I pulled it over and finished the trip on a car dolly. Eventually found out there was a lot of gunk in the thermostat that kept it from opening. The was also a lot os gunk in the radiator from the truck sitting for years. The first thing I did when I got it home was replaced the intake manifold, radiator, thermostat, fuel filter and thermostat housing then flushed the engine with water. A little excessive I know but it was all going to get done eventually anyway.

Examine the wiring closely also for chewed wiring by rodents...
