I'm thinking about taking a look at a truck for sale. Anyone know of any common things to check for? It's a 1980 Luv 4x4 Mikado by the way. Looks stock in the pictures and also looks like a thirty year old truck. Any help is appreciated.

Before you drive it look for any leaks under it and if there are any evaluate them, how bad and where from. Check the oil before starting to see what it looks like, make sure the radio is off before you start it, when you start it LISTEN to what it sounds like...no nocks, grinding, (anything not normal) Keep the radio off the entire time yoy test drive it. Check all gears upshift and downshift. Check out the 4WD and make sure it's working and listen for the same sounds. Listen for any whining from the front and rear ends. When in 4WD get in a parking lot or somewhere wide enough to make a TURN AROUND and turn the wheels all the way to the Left and make a circle and the same thing to the right. You should FEEL it "bucking" a bit while doing this. Check your suspension...not that this could be a deal breaker but something you could negotiate the price over because youhave to replace. Make sure the grill, headlight bezels and all the lights (brake lights, marker lights....etc) interior components are all there or like I said...thats something to use for negotiating price. Check the heater, horn windshield wipers, windshiled washer. I'm sure I'm leaving out some things, just check everything else you can think of. Good luck.

Thanks for the tips. Unfortunately it seems this maybe one of those Craig's List guys that sells the truck and instead of deleting the ad just stops answering the phone.
