I am new here and to Luv's. I got a 79 Luv stock, well after getting it out of the junkyard literally. I put a battery in it and some gas and it fired right up. :D But after we shut it off the ignition went out but thats not the problem, we crossed the starter well the truck tried to start but the float is stuck on the carb. Is this a common occurence and how do I fix this? I tried some carb cleaner but still no fire yet.

if it's been sitting for any amount of time, then yes, it is most definitely likely that there is some sort of varnish in the carb and it may need to be rebuilt.

i am in the planning stages of getting mine rebuilt, and just purchased a walker carb rebuild kit today. PN 15540C. runs you about 20 bucks give or take.

if you intend to keep the truck, then i would STRONGLY suggest you rebuild the carb and save yourself the hassle of trying to diagnose a dirty carb.

hope this helps!

Well we figured the carb out today, it wasnt sticking like we thought. Put a new coil in the truck and messed with a loose wire. Well after that it started up fine and we turned it off and back on and it was fine. Well taped the bad wire up after that and the truck won't start now. The wire we messed with is a red and black wire going into the fuse box under the hood it controls the ignition and the gauges. Is it common for them to melt on these trucks?

Well didnt look at the wire good enough it wasnt that it was a different one spoke to early as always :? But got it fixed, went for a spin and got it to turn sideways and grab 1,2, and 3 LMAO it was fun but i live on a gravel road so it was easy to get sideways  Starter went out today though but its all good I got it out of the junkyard things like this are going to happen.
