Alright, I've finished my bug engine, so the LUV is next. The current engine was built with the new (supposedly crash prone) driver in mind (me), and wasn't meant to last more than about 40k miles (still havn't crashed... knock on wood). I'm currently at 35,427, and it's burning about a quart per oil change, so it's time to get started.

So, I got ahold of a second G180 engine, complete. I want to put a forged rotating assy in it, but I'm not sure where to start looking for parts. I'm leaning pretty heavily towards an offy intake (I know where I'll get that if the time comes) and larger valves (possibly stainless), maybe even on a G200 head (if I can find one).

I'm looking for a forged crank, forged rods (H-beam if I can find them), and forged pistons. If I can find all that, I want to cam it a little higher than stock, maybe to get past that peak power of 80hp @ 4,800rpms.

I'm gonna build this one right, and it might take a while. Any help in the finding of parts would be much appreciated. I'd considerordering from Aus if that's my only option.

I think the G200 head will drop your static CR even lower than the 8.5:1 it's at now. As cb6tig said, the G200 with the 180 head is a better choice if you want power, or shave a little off the head you already have. As for bottom ends, they're pretty stout as-is and the crank is forged. Without a turbo, I can't imagine any G-series engine putting out enough power to seriously strain them. Besides, the head gasket would probably pop first  !

Hmm... if I remember correctly the G200 head had a smaller combustion chamber. I probably don't remember correctly. I'll need to look into that. My G180 head has already been shaved close to .005". I'll need to measure everything and see if I can go farther.

And it's not the power level that I'm worrying about, it's the RPMs that I'd like it to be able to turn. The bug engine that I just built hits the red at 9, and it would be nice if the G180 in the LUV would do the same...

Now that you mention that, I just might need to turbo it. I was toying around with the idea, and the beefyness of the rotating assy is to keep that option open. If I can find a turbo after the engine is done, it shall be turbo'd.

Why the forged rotating assembly?
It's over kill for the rest of the parts you're choosing.

Forged is more for a huge cam, huge headers, ITBs, and a ridiculous redline.
Or a big boost build.

For something "a little better then stock," just re-ring it, check the bearings for tolerances, hone it, and enjoy. That should be more then enough for the offy intake and a slightly better cam.

is that a fairly direct bolt up project? as far as mating the head and block i mean?
