Hey guy's, how have you been? I looked around on the forum to see if there were any answers to my questions so as not to piss anyone off, but I didnt see anything so here I am. I'm goin with a 305 with a TH350 tranny and a 10 bolt camaro rear end. I need to know if the rear end will fit in the truck, and if the driveshaft from a camaro will fit without any mods. Also I was wondering about the front end suspension...will I have to beef it up to accomodate the V8? And also about the Howe radiator suggested in the swap article, I checked out summit racing.com, and they have a few in different sizes, I was wondering what size I need. Thanks

You will need some motor mount adapters which can be made or purchased. (See other posts about the mounts) The Camaro rear end is wider than the stock LUV rear end and will stick out about 4 or 5 inches past each side of the bed and will require relocating the leaf spring pads to match the LUV's spring locations. ( I did one LUV with a Camaro rear end but had attached some fiberglass flares I purchased from JC Whitney and the tires stuck out past them by 3/4". It looked great. The drive shaft will have to be shortened a bit. Most of this is assuming you have a standard bed 2 wheel drive truck. I just ordered a 19" by 22" aluminum radiator from Speedway Motors for my LUV. It will take just a bit of modification to the front, but I should not have to touch the frame this time.

Not sure if you already saw this or not, but we have a general article for the swap here:

http://www.luvtruck.com/pdf/engswap.pdf

I don't know if it will answer all your questions but post here again if you need any more help.

BTW, it's rather large so it may take a while to load even with broadband. If your on dial-up, then forget the link above. You'll be old and gray before it comes up.

Instead go to our "Information" section and download the zipped version of the article.

Thanks guy's. Yeah I printed out the article and that's pretty much what i've been going by for this whole thing. It said the S-10 rear end was kinda weak so I was lookin for something stronger. One of my buddys suggested a camaro, but I dont really like the Idea of the wheels stickin out that much. Can it be shortened, or maybe I could get another opinion on what I should use, cause I haven't gotten it yet. I really appreciate the help. Later.

I find them unguarded, parked on streets right next to the neighborhood mail box all the time.

shit dude its been sooo long, I cant remember where to get them anymore. There used to be a place local that had a lot of them running or rolling chassis for sale to the public. There also used to be a wrecking yard around that had them.... we used to use the axles (some of them were 4x4) for Datsun 4x4 conversions back in the mid 80's. Lemme call around and see if any of my friends remember.

Murphys auto auction in Bothell, Wa often has the jeeps. Almost all of the state agencies use them to sell their vehicles, even the state patrol. Bryan

now wait a minute, if you can fit a s-10 rear into the truck without a ton of mods you might want to look a little closer at the s-10 options. Most all later model s-10's witht he v6 and an auto came with gms 7.625 rear diff which we can all agree is fairly weak, HOWEVER, the v6 5spds came with GMs 8.5" rear which if Im not mistaken is pretty strong......might want to do some scouring in the junk yards?

the only mods to make a jeep axle fit is to move the leaf perches... depending on what its going into, maybe re yolk or shorten the driveshaft.

a 8" or 9" i believe requires a lengthened driveshaft but thats not a major deal.
