So when it comes to filling the rear diff with gear oil, do you fill to the fill hole or do you put the quantity that the manual says which is 2.7 pints? I have filled it to the fill hole once but barely get any fluid in it and thats how everyone has told me to fill it.

If you emptied it first, it should take near that amount. Spin the wheels and shaft to make sure the oil is flowing out into the tubes.
Oh yea, you fill it to the bottom of the fill hole. Like Labman said down there. (arrow pointing down to next post)

I would fill to the fill hole. I am not sure how you would check to make sure it is making it out to the tubes, but sounds like a good idea.

When I put in my "new" diff i had it turned when I put 2.7 pints in it. But when I put new gear oil in my old one years ago I remember filling it to the hole and only getting like a pint into it. In my book it says the capacity is 2.7 pints, so I guess I am just trying to find out if that is how much is supposed to be in it?
