Well, I was finally able to do it! Got a 1979 LUV 4x4 - and MAN, am I excited! I hope this isn't sacrilegious to say, but I know almost nothing about how cars work, but I *do* love my LUV, and I'm ready and willing to learn! I took her into my mechanic (whom I've know for years and trust beyond trust) and he fixed a few things wrong with her - 2 plugs with bent electrodes (Ok, I probably coulda done that one), alternator wire missing, cracked distributor, am having the carburator rebuilt, and a few other things...but he said I need a driveline. Apparently, since it's a 4x4, I can still drive it (he said it goes like a scalded cat now), I just can't use the 4x4 until I get a proper, "new" one in. I've searched the forums, with no luck, and I'm not real sure what I can swap it out for - from what I can, perhaps an '84-'86 Trooper II? Anyhow, Hi everyone! I don't know squat yet, but I'm gonna learn!

Mike

Sorry guys, I haven't been on in a while, as I've been a bit busy learning all i can about basic mechanics, I think it's time to find a Chilton or a Haynes manual - I may not know squat about working on engines, but I can *read* darn it! I bit the bullet and paid my mechanic quite a bit of money to do the initial "go over" so I don't blow something up and kill the project before it even gets started....and apparently the only thing left is the driveline, but I guess I only need the "front" driveline - he said I can still drive it, as long as the hubs aren't turned (engaged) so I'm seriously considering taking it to work tonight, a LOT of my co-workers have seen pictures, and they wanna see it up close. They made fun of me at first, but then they saw a picture, and were intrigued......I told 'em "AHA! You've been bitten by the LUV bug"....needless to say, I got hit for that one, lol. Ok, I'll keep ya'll in the loop ('cause I know I'm going to be asking lots of dumb questions if I can't find it in the search function) and I plan on logging in here a lot more, now that I have the LUV back.

On a side note - any cool names for a baby blu luv truck? "Blue Bomber" is just too cliche for me!

Look on E-Bay for Shop manuals instead of Haynes or Chiltons. There is nothing wrong with a Hanynes or Chiltons but the Shop Manuals are significantly better in every aspect. I think I paid $16 and $9 for each of mine. It's worth the effort.
