Our 78 Mikado long bed has carb problems. Some times it runs fine then it will start missing until it doesn't run at all. I have checked for vacuum leaks and changed the filter. I haven't messed with the electrical because I hate electrical. I am guessing it is the idle selenoid. Would that sound feasible? Parts are vitually impossible to get around here. I had to explain what a Chevy Luv was to the kid at O'reilly's.
I am also looking for a servicable rotor and distributor cap. I got an after market one at a parts store and it was of such poor quality that it was completely unusable.
I am thinking of replacing the carb with a 1 bbl Carter off a 223 Ford. It is about the same profile, has a very simple electric choke design and the linkage would be very simple to fabricate.

I have had very good luck making sure the electrical was in good shape. Carburetor is a French word meaning ''leave alone''.

You have to pull the carb to do this, but on the bottom of the float bowl are 2 12mm bolts, take them off and then you can see if anything is clogging up the jets. I had a similar problem, and after taking these bolts loose, I found one jet had trash in it and was stopped up.

all i have to say is just go with the 32/36 weber and as for the points i had problems like that but it turned out to be the condenser on the distributor wasnt tightened down when i replaced it and cleaned all the connections it ran great, but time the dist. then replace the points then gap but also replace condenser at the same time, or if you can go with the pertroniks electric conversion from orielly's which is around 79.99 but maybe autozone as well. but it deletes the condenser and points.
