Here's the problem when I broght the truck I was imformed that is only runs for about 5 minutes then shut off. When in fact it only runs for 30 seconds. It starts up every time with one problems but will only run as long as i have my foot on the gas. When I let off it runs then shut of with out a sputter. I rebiult the carb an am plannig on changing the fuel fillter and pump. Does this sound right?

I would put a fuel gauge on it also, but that's were I would start. Try the search button and see what others have done. It could also be a weak spark or timing issue.

mine was doing this a couple of years ago. It would start run for a bit then the gen light would come on and it would die. Start right back up and do the same thing again. A new alternator and it was fine. After it dies does it show gas in the float bowl window? My truck died even with my foot on the pedal though.

Yes, the alternator has to be charging for the fuel pump to work.
