Maybe the wrong sending unit in the tank? Most read low resistance when float is in the "full" position, and higher resistance when it is in the "empty" position. Could there be two possible terminals on the sending unit for use? Make sure you have a good ground at the tank.

The sending unit you have in the tank is a standard GM unit, the LUV is backwards from it. I have thew same problem, I just live with it.

The answer would be to swap the sending unit's gauge and ground terminals at the tank. I don't know if that is possible or not on yours.

It wont work egg. The gauge has power all of the time, the sending unit is a variable resistor.

So I guess we shouldn't try and drive his truck very far on a full tank of gas. Good to know

It will work. The variable resistor is about 20 ohms with the float at one end (full) and about 200 ohms or so with the float at the other end (empty), it never is a short to ground. Swapping the connections to the gauge makes it work the opposite way. Yes, I have done this. However you need to have both connections available at the top of the tank. If the low res (20 ohm) end is grounded inside the tank (like most) you are out of luck. Some replacement sender units have two terminals and you ground one or the other to get what you want.

What he is saying is if the sending unit has to elect. connections on top you could make it work. But i think the sending unit is the one wire hook up and CAN NOT be reversed.

Now you have two options one see if you can get a sending unit with the correct polarity or get an after market gauge and install it.

Best of luck getting it to work by reversing the wires. I tried that when I put mine in and evev called Jazz, the company who makes them, they told me it wont work as well. Most of the sending units out there work with what is common to GM, this is backwards from Isuzu. Switch them around and let me know how that works out for you.

Or get a GM scaled gauge from Autometer, etc.
