Sell it to me. I'll buy it from ya within a couple weeks. I've got cash in hand. Then you can use that to try to find you a fullsize. If you're interested, shoot me a PM. hahaha

hey im sorry but i could tell you how to get hp from it trust me get the specs on the comp cam or crane cam kit that they quit makin and go to a camshaft shop and have them grind you one and then go buy a lifter set for it, have the head ported and polished and shaved, then delete smog system and then put new bearings and seals in the whole bottom end then put a bigger radiator in and add a turbo from turbonetics.com and call them like im doing and then put in a stage 2 clutch with a 4.10 gearing and your truck will be really fast so be careful!!!! :) :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Best bang for the buck is a 2.6L motor, Just use the intake and dist. from a 2.3 modify the motor mtns and work on the firewall a bit where in dist goes and put a weber on and you'll have all the power you want. Be sure you use the 1.8 flywheel and cluch.

Has anyone ever actually done this? There is a lot of talk about it, but I haven't actually seen it.

The 1.8 flywheel will not fit- you must use the 2.3 flywheel, the clutch is the same. The 1.8 flywheel has 6 bolts, 2.3 & 2.6 flywheels have 8 bolts. The 2.6 flywheel/clutch won't clear the MSG bellhousing. You also have to use the oil pan from a 2wd truck with a 2.3 and some other minor parts to get the accessories to work.

hmm well that sucks rofl...ima stick with this 1.8L i will prob find another 1.8 from some where and send it to the machine shop bore it 30 over and shave the head port and polish the head...get the pistons and junk re grind my cam put it all together and have an intake/weber carb and a header! i know a stock motor is 80 hp add intake carb and header adds 25 hp thats 105 hp then put an exhaust and having it bored = little more compression then having the cam in it as well i should be pushing close to 150-200 hp says the machine shop so i wonder?

if i put msd wires and an msd ignition and some really good plugs would that boost my hp at all?

I've been running a modified 2.3 in my 80 4x4 Luv for about four years and bolted it up to the stock transmission and if I remember right I had too use the 1.8 flywheel and clutch because the flywheel from the 2.3 will not fit inside of the trans housing. I've got a 91 2.6 in a wrecked truck just waiting to go in my next build and I be using the 2.3 intake with the 38-38 weber 2.3 intake and the 2.3 dist. Wait a minuate I
think I'm wrong about the the flywheel it's the clutch from the 1.8 that you have too use, been doing alot of swapping in the last few years.

Just my opinion, but if your truck is already running and driving, I would just leave well enough alone with the drivetrain and just do things to improve comfort, looks, or safety... while continuing to perform routine maintenance.
Continue to save your money and be on the lookout for specific things that you want to add on for performance a boost. When you have everything you need, then do it. Or wait until the LUV is a 2nd car.

I mean, if you buy a header, you will need to have your exhaust pipe/muffler redone or modified which means more money...

The truck that I have pictured is my 15 y/old son's. He wants a V8 in it, but doesn't understand that it is a lot more complicated than it seems (and expensive). I am encouraging him to just enjoy driving his stock truck for a few years and if he still wants to upgrade... I will help him. And HE will be paying for it. To stick with stock is much easier on the wallet.

BTW, your truck is looking good!
