Are you running a ballast resistor?

What is a ballast resistor anyways. I have read your posting about this. What exactly is it though....is it inside the distrubutor ? . I am getting different readings on the volt meter... My dayly driver 79 reads high , and my 80 reads low. They both have stock distrubutors....and what about the little wire inside the distrubutor they are calling a lead wire. It's a short small wire inside that is not isulated that leads from the negative side of the distrubutor to the points ?Should it not be a well insulated wire?[/u]

Here are examples of what they look like.

Most older cars have one mounted next to the coil.

The lead wire carries only low voltage. It's part of circuit that tells the coil when to fire.

An ignition coil is just an oil filled transformer that converts low voltage to high voltage.

No, I gave up on him. Now I think he's not running one just because I told him he should.
