By way of introduction; found a claimed 53K miler on my local Craigslist which I assumed was more like 153K or 253K miles. Went to visit in the pouring rain Sunday, and darn it, I do believe this 79'er has 53,000 on the clock. Bodywork is rough in places, floorboards will need some attention & the interior has suffered from leaking door stripping & the Texas sunshine. However, mechanically she's a beaut! Everything works, AC, heat, even the interior lights! She drives great, steering is solid & all the fluids looked new. I gave $1,300 & drove her home in torrential rain with nary a hiccup.

My plan is to fix the weather stripping (parts ordered today) and replace the floors (any help on sourcing panels would be much appreciated but I assume I'll be fabricating my own) but other than that & a Mexican blanket, I'm looking to drive her as she is.

Pictures are from the seller. When I get daylight I'll add a couple of my own.

Thanks all, question - why is the LUV seemingly so popular for drag racing/hot rodding? I didn't realize any of this until cruising around the site.

first welcome.
second, they are so popular for this because they are so light and built so tough. fully boxed frame bumper to bumper and for such a small truck they have 6 cross members, so they are quite rigid and can handle way more power they they ever put in them stock

And a small block Chevy will fit in them without any changes to the core support or firewall.
