Ok. Since I will probably have thousands of questions since I am just starting out with this truck, I dont see the point of starting new threads for every one of them.

So, funny story for this next question. We get the new fuel pump in, and find out while gasoline of an indeterminate age will run the truck, it does not run it well. So, we're pumping the gas out. As we're doing this, my buddy decided to take a look at things in the cab. All of a sudden, I start hearing a tinkling noise that sounds something like music. I told him his phone was ringing, because it sure as hell wasn't mine. As i'm sure you have assumed, it wasn't his phone either, but the emergency flashers. Now my question is this. Is that stock, or did the previous owner of the truck put that in?

if you mean that there was some kind of ticking sound like a soft tapping, that is normal for EVERY car.

some flash "modules" are louder than others.

if it's actual music, that would be a first for any Luv owner.

i say just track it down and see what it is.

also, pictures are greatly appreciated.

 I dunno. Its probably a gremlin in there to mess with my mind. Anyway...

-update-

Pictures soon to come, if I figure out how to post them.

Did a compression test, 20lbs in 1 and 2. Creamy white stuff in around the cam and valves. Batting 1000 here. Have everything disconnected and am ready to pull the engine. Only problem is, this is in a school shop so, we got kicked out at 11:30 because the instructor had to leave. So, pulling the engine monday, going through it. On principle, I'm going to go ahead and rebuild it, since she sat for 10 years.

And like I said, pics to come, when I figure out how. Hoping within the next few minutes.

She isn't too shabby. Little bit of rust in the engine compartment, and some holes in the rockers. Other than that, she's rather solid.

Does it only happen when the engine is running? If not just turn the it on on and try to chase the noise down, You should be able to find it under the dash. I am not sure if they use 2 flashers. Are the lights flashing when you hear the noise?

Grandmaster of the "Shade Tree" way.. I can't see the yard for all the cars. Come on down and we will sit on the porch and watch the grass grow.

Back in the day, JC Whitney really sold turn signal flashers that played music when you activated the turn signals! ( No, I don't remember what tune(s) it played) There was 2 versions, the musical one and one with a extra loud "click". This was in the mid 70's, early 80's so this may have been put on the truck right after it was orignally purchased. I have not seen one in their catalog in forever, so I think something like that is at least 30-35 years old or older, so I'm surprised it still works! Hope this helps. By the way..Nice stepside.

Wow thanks for the JC whitney info. My buddies kept asking me if I was doing shrooms before I got in the truck  Till I showed them. They took it upon themselves to start a crusade to figure out why it does it. To no avail obviously haha!

-update-

Got the engine pulled out yesterday. Had to wait all day for the cherry picker so, I didn't make it much further than that. Hoping to start teardown today. So far I know for a fact I have a blown head gasket. I'll update when I find out more.

?

You dont see many Chevy LUVs in MT even. There are two in town that I know of, and both have been parked in the same spot for years, just rusting away.

Also, feel free to add them. I dont mind at all :)

Engine is pulled out. Everything looks fine, cam looks good, crank is good. rings are ok but I think I'm going to go ahead and replace them. I would actually like to find a full rebuild kit. Anyone know where I could find one online?
