I believe you have a short somewhere in your ignition wiring if your coil is getting that hot. It means it's sucking juice from your battery and grounding it out somewhere.

As far as it starting and running for just a second could be a could of things. I would ensure you're getting good fuel to the carb and if you are then I would look at the carb. If it's stock it could need cleaning/rebuilding/replacing. If all of them check out them look at you timing/plugs/wires/etc.

They're pretty simple engines from what I've learned so far from owning mine, just takes a little time.

welcome, nice lil rat rod look. as far as your problems goes it does sound like wiring, check and clean the grounds and your battery terminals. corrosion can build up in the clamps of the terminals and cause a poor circuit

The carb should have a little window on the front of the float bowl. The gas level should be near the mark in the middle. I have had a lot of problems with the float sticking. I finally put plastic spacers to center the float on the pin it pivots on. Once you fix the float sticking problem, you may need to adjust the tab that controls its height. Don't mess with it until you are sure the problem isn't the float sticking. It is a real PITA to set.

I agree, check your wiring. The coil could be going bad too. With the points open, the coil primary shouldn't be grounded. The fuel pump is electric and controlled by a relay under the panel behind the coil. It won't work with the key in run unless the alternator is producing power.

If the coil is getting to hot make sure that it is wired to the resister.

ill have to check the coil to see why its getting hot, but as far as plugs go i just changed the plugs, wires, cap, and points, so i think they all should be good, i heard these sometimes jump time on the timing chain, is there any way to check that out??

and it is getting fuel to the carb, and i just replaced the fuel pump also.

X2, I'm betting the coil is wired wrong, bypassing the resistor.

  it all depends on the condition. if you beat on it and it has some cancer than your lookin at 500 maybe. if you clean it up and drop a fire breathing v8 in it than the skys the limit.

If your resistor is bypassed your points will burn surprisingly fast and throw your timing out of whack. I had an ignition switch problem and ran my truck off of a battery to coil jumper wire for a bit. If you dont have a multi-meter buy one. I paid ten bucks for one at pamida inthe bargain bin and ruined it not knowing what I was doing then bought another one the same way. Had it a few years. The wire going to your dist should have less than 12 volts for sure.

okay ive had no luck with the isuzu engine in my luv, i would like to swap it out the easiest way possible, so is there any engines that will bolt to the stock luv trans.

or what engine/ trans would go in easy

im not looking to put a v8 in in, just like a 4 cylinder, or maybe a small v6, or like a dohc engine would be sweet

thanks
