I have an 80 4x4 luv and I got it stuck the other day.We had about 10-12 " of snow and I had to try it out.It did great on flat areas and some inclines but I got stuck when I tried to go up a slight hill with most of the weight shifted to drivers side.I don't think I would have got stuck if I had more aggressive tread.Anyway this truck just has a 3" body lift and is stock otherwise. What is the deepest snow you guys have done well in?
One other thing I noticed is that snow gathers at frt shft where skid plate is and gets hot from friction and turns into a solid chunk of ice right at the yoke.Anyone notice that and if so do you have any suggestions to fix? Thanks,Daniel

Ive got my truck stuck in the snow three times. Every time I rode on top of the snow and got my tires off of the ground. Wet thick snow. Everytime I got myself out by shoveling snow from under the truck and into the bed. If I'm patient and go forward a few feet and then back up and do it again I can go through a couple of feet for a bit of a ways, dry snow not a problem. Its the drifts I didnt see that got me. Nowadays if there arent tracks in the snow yet I go slow in 4 low and dont over-commit. So there is always reverse. Less shoveling. If your not alone in your wanderings and have someone to pull you out by all means bust them drifts.

Thanks for the tips.Sounds like we have the same problems.
I considered getting rid of it because of getting stuck in a pretty easy spot. Before I make that choice I think I'll fab some kinda plow shapped like this ^ that can be attached when the snow is over 10".Anyone done that yet?

i learned the hard way that just because you have 4wd, it doesn't mean you are immune to getting stuck.

of course, momentum and a little bit of guts is all it takes to break through most snow drifts. at least around these parts.

Where we live our drive-way and road drifts in. Whatever the official snow its twice as much at least. If I have to go to work I will shovel snow from behind the ol ladies' car into the bed of the truck to start with. Id have to shovel it anyways. It sucks when it drifts back in and it sucks hauling around a quarter ton or more of snow when the roads are clear but I get to work. It sucks not being able to see out of the back window too. All that said, I get a hard on when theres a snow-storm comin. Snow is better than man made weight because it will melt and it wont move around in the bed.
