I have a 80 luv 4spd. I went to take a look at this 99 pre vortec engine yesterday n it looked beautiful, lots of work done on it. If i were to buy this engine, whats an affordable decent tranny that'll work well in it? i was hoping to get one from a salvage yard. also, could my stock rear end handle the power? i dont plan on driving it like i stole it or anything but definitely wanna be safe. id probably have to put a new clutch in as well eh? Any info is much appreciated

I hope you ment 89 4.3l v6 because the 99 have vortec heads. I'm doing the same to my 4x4 luv. First thing is to make sure you get the block without a balance shaft, should be Z vin code. You will need the complete engine harness unless you have the money for pre-made after market one. You will have to run a electric pull radiator fan. Maybe easier to run a auto tranny like the t350, 700r or 4l60. I'm got a sm465 4speed for mine, other than that find a oem standard tranny. Your rear end should be fine or try and get your hands on a s10 rear end and mod hubs or cut down a 1/2 ton axle. We need more info for how much work you want to do.

right on guys i appreciate the information. i would love to have my truck fast as hell but all i decided all i can afford right now (money and time-wise) is something basic to get it back on the road. What engine besides the stock isuzu 1.8 could bolt in to my 80' luv? or mount up without having to swap the tranny as well?

G180-G200-2.3-2.6 are pretty much your Isuzu options.

Looks like an external slave cylinder for the clutch.
