This is probably here some where but I can't locate it. My torsion bars are stuck and will not come out. I have removed everything I think and they won't come out. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

PB blaster after doing what ctmandu said above, All tension must be removed from the bar!! BFH, BIG punch and access to the end of the bar, from the front IIRC..... If you are going to coil overs, I think you said.... Heat it with a torch, only if you do not want to use them again. BFH, BIG punch and access to the end of the bar, from the front IIRC. You could cut them but I do not think that will do any thing for you. Front end may need to be off the ground.

I only adjusted mine on my luvs, but replaced them on my Dodge Dart that had Torsion bar front end.

If you are going to coilovers, just cut them off at the lower a arm, they won't fall out...

I know this may sound crazy, but you DO have the truck on jack stands with the suspension relaxed? Right?

Then it is sawsall time. They are tempered steel, so I do not know if a sawsall will cut them... Fire up the old torch.

I have removed many torsion bars and they ALL came out easily using a small mallet and piece of round steel for a punch. Yes I admit the first one I did the truck was on jackstands, but they were under the suspension and wouldn't move. Interesting!

Now I have found 2 different ways that pie cutting has been explained. One way on here and another somewhere else. Can someone help me?

Cat,
We removed the front nut. The back torsion bar adjusting nut's threads stripped out as we backed it out. Do we need to cut this bolt to remove the torsion bar?

hello,

Would anyone be willing to sell me their old front suspension? Many of you have converted to coil-over and I was wondering if you still had the torsion bars, adjusting arms/bolts laying around--that you have no more use for. The original front suspension works really well for us. As Mr. T previously mentioned, we have unfortunately stripped the driver-side adjuster bolt and adjuster arm and would be interested in a spare set(both sides) since we cannot find these parts for sale anywhere. Also, any ideas as to how to get these torsion bars out if you are not able to extract the adjuster bolt due to extreme strippage?

thanks in advance for any help or advice,

phil
