well, thanks to wilburjustin's uh....i think he was his uncle...

anywho, i found out that my shocks are shot, so i got some new shocks for the truck. i looked at my chassis, and they look like the factory equipped stuff.

but yeah, got the engine out, separated the trans, and stripped the new truck of all wiring. my brother cut out the rusted out portion of the floor pan, and he should have it replaced by noon tomorrow. then, all that's left is to service the diff's, the trans and transfer case, and install the doors and wiring along with the engine.

im hoping to have everything done by tomorrow night. my brother and brother in law's brother are helping me out.

i posted a partial list of available parts in the classifieds thread.

Sounds like your getting a lot done.
Don't forget to check out the brakes. The master cylinder front cup looks nasty.

thought you guys would want to see some pictures of the build so far.

we are about 70% done, and we would have been done tonight, but the rain caught us off guard today. At least the engine is in after last night's little mishap. ( i left the 2wd pan on)

so, here are the pics. beware! they are large files...

Evan is taking my front rotors and brakes.

At this point, i could have turned back....

the new truck. (it needs to be named btw...)

and after!

I will be taking more pictures, but as of right now, the engine is in, and the rear brakes have been serviced, and the parking brake cable installed.

more to follow this rain that we are having...

My 4X4 needs the e brake cable that goes from wheel to wheel. I was going to take that one, or ask you for yours, until I saw that the one on your new 4X4 one is broken also, so I knew you would need yours. I'll find one somewhere else another time. 8)
There is photo evidence that Evan also took your jack and lug wrench. I hope it was OK. :P
Hey Evan, big brother is watching. :P

when i first saw the cable, i groaned...i didnt want ANOTHER item to add to the list of things i needed to fix...

I had to jam out of there pretty fast so I just paid for the parts. I think I made friends with the dogs though.

lol, i keep forgetting to tell everyone who comes down for parts about the dogs..

well, it finally started to look like a truck today!

we got the wiring harness done, fuel and vacuum connected, the brakes bled, seat installed, truck bed mounted, exhaust done, and almost finished the engine peripherals. turns out that the radiator developed a crack in the lower hose connection. we got it soldered, but i may take it to a radiator shop in the morning.

it got real late and didnt get a chance to crank the engine and get it fired up. im hoping that tomorrow evening, i will be on my way home...

i need to spend some time with the wife after this...otherwise i'll never get to have another project

thats part of being a car guy you stay up all night working on it then at 1 or 3 in the morning you fire it up and rev it as high as you can  We used to do that now we moved and live farther from neighbors and it's not just us doing it.

yup. thats why i chose to take the 6 south. it runs parallel to the 15, and is about 20 miles shorter for me in the long run. even though it takes me 15 hours to get there, at least i get to enjoy the ride...

Good luck man! Only advise: if you get sleepy, stop. Even if you take an extra day to do it, it's worth it. I pushed too hard when I drove up to Burlington, Washington, got too tired and wound up in a CHP speed trap just south of Mt. Shasta (straight road w/ 6% downgrade)... 82 in a 65 and I'm reasonably sure I'd been applying some brakes prior to the radar fix.

$400 could've bought me an incredible hotel room.

Stay well rested and on top of your game. 8)

Nice meeting you. Thanx for the deal on the parts. Still down in town and have not gone home yet either, parts still in back of my truck. Sorry I couldn't help you, good luck on your trip home. You guys did the impossible, drove down in one truck and a week later driving back in another truck built from both trucks from a complete disassambly on both.

yup. thanks to all you guys for the help and the financial backing. i hope those parts work out for those of you that got something from me.... uh.. that sounded dirtier than i intended it to 8O

i'm leaving from los angeles in about an hour, and i will be home sometime tomorrow afternoon/evening.

i'll make sure to stop and rest when i need to. i have no qualms about doing so. i've already had my experience with highway vertigo/sleepiness. i have too much invested in this whole project to go and screw it up now by not being careful.

i posted my phone number in the classifieds thread that i started, so if anyone feels like calling me up and chatting, i can do that too. i have my phone connected to the radio, so i can drive hands-free 8)

ok, time to hit the road!
next post from beautiful Salt Lake City, Utah!

SLC or BUST!(@55mph)
