I love the buick V6 myself, lightweight - ideal location of engine compnents for a resonably easy swap, and fairly easy to find parts for.

All factory turbo parts fit chassis perfectly except for turbo downpipe.

The engine is fairly effiecnt as well, and with proper tuning can live on stock radiator. The buick V6 when treated right is easily capable of 600hp in stock turbo form.

downside.......... way more expensive then a SBC to build for any kind of performance.

what if you were doing a swap just simply to have a different drive train than a stock luv setup? speaking in terms of cost. maybe a mild cam in the v6 and a few other bolt ons, but no crazy race setups ....

Im not sure I exactly get what your saying, but in carburated form - most people hate the buick V6. as it sits, I myself had a really hard time doing the swap when it was still in NA form. they are just too damn doggy without the turbo. But turbo wise... it easily takes on the big boys.
As for cost to swap one in, originally I did it in one weekend and it cost me about a grand. I honestly would have to suggest the chevy 4.3 if mild performance is desired. But for ease of swap, the buick really shines. I have all motor mounts needed for 77 and up swap using a 700R4 if you still decide to go that route.
