Hello,I've got an 80 4x4 and it has the weber carb set-up.When I crank in the am I can't touch the gas or it will cut off.Once it warms up 10 minutes,I can use the pedal.I can deal with that but it idles real high once warm.Close to 2000 rpm.I found the one adjustment near the throttle cable and have backed it all the way out and has not helped. Is there a fast idle adjustment on this carb that I'm missing?I've read a bunch but still can't find location of fast idle. Thanks ahead of time.

I played with the timing and air/fuel mix and now its hittin a lick. These little motors seem to love being wound out.I'm used to driving a 350 truck and theres a bunch of difference in the way they are tuned.I'm slowly but surely catchin on.
THANKS for this site!!!

Yeah thanks. The timing was to far advanced.I turned it back a few degrees and it brought the idle down where it needs to be.Mixture was also too rich.I just read enough old post to narrow down the problem.I hope it holds out.

OK,I went to my in law who's a mechanic.I asked him to check my timing and point gap/dwell.He set points at 18 and timing at 12.The truck has less power and will backfire a bit.It also spits and jumps when cruising.I have to keep it pretty raced up to run best.If I drive like I stole it ...it runs good?
Are there any known settings for a 1.8 with weber...like air/fuel mix-
2 turns out?
Bump timing from 6 to 10-12?
Point gap-16 or 18?
What works for you?
THANKS

I took the Luv back to the garage and we tried to figure it out.I installed new points and set them to 18.It set the dwell at 52.
The timing was very retarded. We raised the timing to 12.The idle went to near 1300.If I removed the vacuum for advance then it would barely idle.Someone had the vacuum advance hooked up to the two ports that come from under the drivers side of the carb.I plugged those two lines and re-attached the vacuum line to the passenger side of the carb at a port. Now timing is at 12 idle is at 900 and it runs much better.
My only problem for now is that the idle goes up and down from like 900 to 1000 and back to 900.
Any ideas? Also is it OK to plug those two hoses that the advance had been connected to earlier?
Thanks

mine did the same thing... small vacuum leak probably around the adapters like mine, poorly made and never perfectly flat... i used some Right Stuff gasket sealer and never had a problem again...

Thanks for the tips.I checked the caps that I used to plug the two vacuums coming from under the carb. One was loose and it helped a bit when fixed. It still surged though.I tried a tip from here.I removed the filter and put my hand over the primary and it quit surging.I read that this means it's too lean.I opened up the mix screw a bit and it quit surging.
Just wondering,is it normal on these webers to have a mix screw on each end of the carb(at base)?I adjusted the one on the exhaust side of carb and it idled it way down so now I can fine tune the idle much easier.I found that adjuster under the fuel filter someone had added right at carb. This truck has the internal filter in carb, inline filter at tank and carb and I guess another on end of fuel pump.Isn't that overkill?
Thanks again for the help.I beleive many of the problems luv owners experience have to do with points. My only suggestion is to start with new points.Seems to me that adjusting even slightly damaged ones is near impossible.

I had one that ran just like this also. On two different trucks. And the accel. pump worked on it. I just took it off and used another carb I had, no problems.
