I looked at a 80 Luv today. It is a 4x4 Mikado.Runs decent.Has sheet metal floors, some rust through in the bed, rust and some rust through on frame 2-3" long below cab,no door panels, brakes try to lock up but don't,2 rusted body/bed mounts, body is primered and half spray bombed...

The good;motor runs, tranny and 4WD work, pad has no cracks, lower dash is all good, all lights good, has all AC stuff besides compressor including ac(dash) section, hood fenders bumpers are good, sliding rear window and glass are good.

Question is ;Would you buy it for 550.00?
I also have an 80 4x4 luv that may need parts eventually. Thanks

Sounds high for a rust bucket to me. Especially here in CA. Where are you? Maybe, if LUVs are very rear in your area, it might be a deal.

Thanks for the opinion.Thought I'd get more than one helpful comment?Anyway I live in NC.I just got back from driving it home.Factory carb is spittin and sputterin.Any hill was max of 30MPH.Old gas is primary problem.I bought it because I figured parts could be hard to find.Like tranny, motor and all mechanical parts.Did'nt know...

Hard to get any kind of reply when there are no pictures involved. Its like me posting "What color are my eyes???" Without any pics, we are just taking a stab in the dark, you could have 30 people describe this truck and get 30 different descriptions of the same truck. I had a coworker tell me he found a 79 4x4 in the next town over that was in pretty good shape, when I went to look at it, there wasnt a single piece of the truck that wasnt dented, cracked or broken except the wiper cowl. He thought it was a great truck with potential and I would have taken it to the crusher. So my point is, if you want to get some vaild opinions, we need to see what we are commenting on.

Tilted,I thought I gave a pretty good description of the truck. If you gave as detailed a description about your eyes as I did about the truck,I'd say your eyes were primered and half spray bombed?Anyway,I was just looking for advice as I'm new to the Luv's.Thankfully this site is here and I learned enough to make my own decision based on the info here. Thanks, regardless

I was just trying to state that the reason you only got 1 comment was, nobody (or at least me anyway) would want to put themselves on the line with your money just going off how you described it (kind of vagely) (you stated fenders and bumper good, what does that mean, to me, that means perfect with no flaws, no rust. but thats my definition, how big were the rust holes in the bed?? I can think about 20 questions to ask you on condition right off the bat).
If that truck was on Ebay with just the description you posted here and no pics, would you bid on it??? I wouldn't. I am not trying to be an @ss, but ( :P I said assbutt) the conditions of these trucks now vary so greatly, mostly in the bad category and for that price, it usually falls in the lower percentage range of condition. Of even with pictures it dont tell the whole story, I work with a guy that has won cars on ebay with pics and got screwed both times as they were in way worse condition than you could see in the pics and he talked to both owners before bidding about what shape they were in, He went from here to New Mexico last weekend, 14 hour trip one way and came home with an empty car trailer and about $1100 lighter in his pocketbook.
Hopefully this truck was a great buy for you, we have another member because of it and 1more LUV saved from death.

Reasonable arguement....here in Texas that is cheap for a complete truck..... much less running.........but rust is not much of a problem on a Tx truck...
