Just want to pass this by you for a few opinions before I tackle it.
After driving my LUV at night for the first time since adding the new grill with the aux. driving lights, I noticed the voltmeter drop from 13.6 volts to 12. 6 volts. If I turn the blower on HIGH at the same time, it drops even lower to 11.8 volts. Now during the day with the lights off and at idle, I have been seeing it drop to 11.5 volts. Rev the engine just a bit and it goes to 12.1 volts. Normally 13.6 volts at any other time. My thoughts are the voltage regulator is bad or needs cleaning and adjusting. I plan to replace it but think maybe a larger amperage alternator is in order too as I will install my radio one day which is additional drain. Any advice on this and possible alternator? If I do replace the alternator, can a one-wire alternator be installed with the stock harness? Lat me have it, I can take it........

Yes it can be done and several out here have done it. Just go to the search window and type in.... delco 1 wire alternator. Then scroll down until you see that subject in the title.

The direct replacement higher out put is the alt. for an A/C truck.

Yep...for the same price as a stock Luv 35 amp alt, you can get a 50 amp alt that was used in all of the Luvs that came stock with factory A/C, at most parts stores. It bolts/wires right up the same as the stock 35 amp one does. All you need to do to install it is to replace the wire and fuseable links that run from your alt to your battery with a heavier guage wire and two 50 amp blade type fuses and fuse holders. This all can be bought cheap at most parts stores and will all work just fine with the stock voltage regulator.

It's a bit of a PITA to unwrap and re-wrap the wiring harness under the hood (freakin' gooey slimey greasy tape....lol) to get at the wire that goes from the three-pronged plug in the back of the alt over to the battery to get it all done - but IMHO it's sure worth it.

I think I'll gow with Tazman's idea of the A/C alternator. Have plenty of heavy gauge wire around here to re-wire it as you said. Thanks..
